The Parthenon

OK, for those of you who thought the Parthenon was a Greek ruin here's the true story. The Greeks tried to build this in about the 5th century BC but it fell down. The enterprising folks in Nashville got a hold of the original plans and built a better one (exact copy) for their State Centennial in 1897. This one DID NOT fall down and is still there today for all to see (for only $5.00). Not only that, they put a museum in the basement to show lots of cool stuff they wouldn't let me photograph.
So....What's inside? It's Athena, the goddess of wisdom, prudent warfare and the useful arts. (I'm NOT making this up) Athena is 42' 10" tall and is holding NIKE, the Goddess of Victory, in her right had. (again, I'm not making this up). I wonder if Phil Knight knows about this?

Like Nike, everything about this place is larger than life. It is easily one of the most memorial places Cheryl and I have ever visited. The great thing about this is that it is located in a town park with lots of grassy area around it for families to picnic and for kids to just hang out. Cheryl bought a sno-cone from the kiosk across the park and we sat and just looked at the Parthenon for about an hour.
