Some of my earliest memories are listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio. My parents loved it and I didn't really know that any other music existed. Although the Grand Ole Opry moved to Opryland in 1974 and the Ryman was retired only to reopen in 1994 as a concert hall it remains the home of country music. We got to tour it by just walking around.
This was where country music and blue grass got its start. Literally every Country Music star in history has played the Ryman from Earnest Tubb and Bill Monroe to Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. We were surprised to see that many of the Rock & Roll stars had also played here including Bruce Springsteen and of course Elvis.
All the up and coming stars wanted to perform here as you can see in the picture above (yes it is Mike and Cheryl). It was what helped them on their way to stardom!
Tomorrow we tour Opryland USA, the new home of the Grand Ole Opry.
