Vacation Day 5 (Tuesday)

Timpanogos Cave National Monument

This morning Cheryl and I were up early to visit Timpanogos Caves. It was a beautiful 1 hour drive from Park City through the Uinta National Forest. We passed the Sundance Ski resort and a lot of other stuff named Sundance. Robert Redford's presence is obvious here. This area is where the Sundance Film Festival is held. We hiked up a trail that raised in elevation of over 1000 feet in 1.5 miles. We knew it would be hot so we arrived at 9:00am to make our 10:30 tour time. We were proud of ourselves as we make the climb in 1 hour. We were faster than most of our 20 member tour group. The suggested hiking time time is 1.5 hours. We did notice a stretcher at the top. We wondered were they kept the defibrillator.

Here's a sample of the 150+ photos I took.
While the outside temperature reached the 90's it was a cool 46 degrees in the caves. The inside tour took 1 hour and was very well done. We enjoyed it very much.

The original cave was discovered about 100 years ago. Since that time 2 more caves, which are now interconnected, have been found. There is about 3 miles of passages of which about a mile or so is open to the public. About another 1/2 mile or so is visible during the tour.

The urban area in the distance is the outskirts of Provo, where we went for lunch.
