The Botanical Gardens
Today I took the bus to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens which is a few miles from the center of town. There are about 33 acres of gardens which are designed to represent various botanical regions of south Texas. Each was quite well done with a number of old buildings and farmsteads incorporated into them.
There were about a dozen sculptures like this fellow placed in the Piney Forest area.
This sculpture and the palm tree behind it was part of the southeastern Texas area. I've noted before that this area has a tropical feel to it. There are lots of palms as well as beautiful flowering plants throughout the city.
The photo below is one of about 30 I took of the butterflies.
For me the butterfly garden was the highlight of the gardens. There were literally hundreds of butterflies around these plants.
I have taken well over a hundred photos along the River Walk. Tomorrow Cheryl and I will be taking a boat cruise on the river. I plan on sharing a number of the River Walk pictures, as well as some of its interesting history, in tomorrow's blog .
